Plot summary
Audrey Grant lives in San Diego, where her son James spends his days at the hospital caring for his partner, Donald Barnes, who is dying of AIDS. James will not be tested for HIV, though his mother urges it. Donald and his mother have been out of touch for years. Luanne Barnes lives in a trailer park in Fayetteville, Arkansas, and condemns her son's sexuality. Without Donald's knowledge, James asks Audrey to fly to Arkansas and persuade Luanne to visit him.
