Plot summary
In Montana in the winter of 1870, the Archer family takes shelter from a storm and stops so Fable, their horse, can rest. Tobias and his father Abraham come upon a wagon train that has been massacred, with only one survivor, a woman named Cassidy, her palms pierced by arrows. The family tends her wounds and gives her a place to stay. Four bandits, Logan, Rhys, Brody and Felix, ride into the camp that night and murder Abby's father Abraham, her mother Celeste and her brother Tobias, then take Abby, Cassidy and Fable to a fortified ghost town that serves as the gang's headquarters. Abby tries to break away from the gang.

- Organ Trail began as a typo: screenwriter Meg Turner misspelled her search for the Oregon Trail game online, found the title intriguing and funny, and pitched the concept as "what if Quentin Tarantino wrote The Little House On the Prairie?", tweeting it in April 2021.
- Actor Olivia Grace Applegate recalled that shooting in remote locations sometimes required traveling by snowmobile and bringing food to set by sled, with warming tents and a bathroom tent provided for the cast and crew.
