Plot summary
Ray, Pluto and Fantasia, Ray's girlfriend, leave six murders behind in Los Angeles and drive toward Houston, where Pluto plans to sell the cocaine to a friend. Detectives Dud Cole and John McFeely work the case, and a recovered home videotape points them toward Star City, Arkansas. They telephone its police chief, Dale "Hurricane" Dixon, a familiar figure on the rural patrol who has spent his career on small domestic calls and welcomes the chance at real police work. When the detectives reach Star City, Dale tries to win their approval, and the visitors from Los Angeles treat his country manners as a joke.
