Plot summary
Donald Strachey, a private investigator in Albany, takes a job tailing a woman whose husband suspects her of cheating. She is an undercover police officer, Gina Santer, and she arrests him. Meanwhile, in the town of Hollis, residents along Moon Road have been offered money for their properties by a developer, and only Dorothy Fisher and her partner Edith Strong refuse to sell. Their home is broken into and marked with homophobic graffiti, and a brick follows through a window. Dorothy, a school counselor placed on leave after a parent's objection, blames a student. Strachey is introduced to the couple by their friend Andrew McWhirter and starts looking into the vandalism, suspecting the real estate deal rather than hate alone.
