Plot summary
In the summer of 1991, Ghislaine Marchal, a wealthy heiress, is found dead in the basement of her home. Beside her, in her own blood, someone has written the words "Omar M'a Tuer," grammatically incorrect French for Omar has kill me. The message points to her Moroccan gardener, Omar Raddad, who is charged straight away even though the case against him holds no forensic or DNA evidence. He is found guilty and sentenced to eighteen years in a French prison. Journalist Pierre-Emmanuel Vaugrenard, shocked by the case and convinced of Omar's innocence, moves to Nice to investigate the case for himself.
