Nowhere in Africa (2001) on Netflix

Plot summary

Walter Redlich, a lawyer in Germany, takes work managing a farm in Kenya and sends for his wife and daughter as the persecution of the Jews grows. Jettel Redlich arrives with Regina and brings china dishes and an evening gown; at first she refuses to adjust to her new circumstances. Regina, once afraid of small dogs and of her own shadow, adapts quickly, learning the language of the country and forming a close friendship with Owuor, the cook who helped Walter recover from malaria. Süsskind, a German long settled in Africa, is Jettel's only contact from her old country. Max, Walter's father, stays behind in Germany, expecting everything to be settled within a year or two.
