• In 1997, romance writer Janet Dailey admitted to repeatedly plagiarizing Nora Roberts' work. A reader noticed similarities between Roberts' Sweet Revenge and Dailey's Notorious and posted the passages online, and Roberts sued.
• During a blizzard in February 1979, with three feet of snow, little chocolate and no morning kindergarten for her two boys, Nora Roberts had little else to do, so she began writing. She quickly produced six manuscripts and submitted them to Harlequin, which repeatedly rejected her.
• Harlequin rejected Nora Roberts' early manuscripts with a note saying her work showed promise but they already had their American writer, Janet Dailey, who later confessed to plagiarizing Roberts' work.
• Nora Roberts chose the pseudonym D. J. MacGregor for her romantic suspense novels but discovered right before publication that another author was using it, so her first romantic suspense novel appeared in 1995 as J. D. Robb, with the initials taken from her sons Jason and Dan.
• Nora Roberts was the first inductee in the Romance Writers of America's Hall of Fame, and in 1997 she received the RWA Lifetime Achievement Award, which was renamed the RWA Nora Roberts Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008.
• In 2007, Lifetime Television adapted four Nora Roberts novels into TV movies, the first time the network had adapted multiple works by the same author; four more films followed on four consecutive Saturdays in March and April 2009.
• Nora Roberts met her second husband, carpenter Bruce Wilder, when she hired him to build bookshelves in July 1985; the couple later owned the historic Boone Hotel, which was destroyed by fire in February 2008 and reopened in 2009 as the Inn BoonsBoro, with suites named for literary romantic couples with happy endings.
