Plot summary
After a fire destroys her family's pizzeria in Baltimore, eleven-year-old Reena Hale decides she will spend her life investigating fires. John Minger, whom she meets while that fire is investigated, becomes her mentor and helps her reach that goal. Years later the grown-up Reena returns to the neighborhood where she was a girl and buys a house there, next door to Bo Goodnight, a carpenter. The two begin a relationship. At the same time, a psychopathic arsonist tied to Reena's past begins setting fires meant to hurt her, threatening Reena and the people closest to her.
