Plot summary
Owen and Ray have known each other since they were boys. Owen makes short films and develops photographs; Ray has a daughter, Francie, plays drums in a band, drinks heavily, and has an office job for now. Owen is engaged to Lynn. Lynn breaks off the engagement, and Owen asks Ray to come with him to a small film festival in Kansas, where one of his shorts has been nominated. He hopes the trip will help him win her back. At their hotel, Ray spots an actor in town for a lifetime achievement award and passes himself off as the man's son to get them a suite.
