Plot summary
Makio Miyoshi belongs to the Yamamori Family. In 1950 he tries to shoot the head of the rival Asada Family in a public place, but leaves before the job is done, and his boss, Yoshio Yamamori, rebukes him for the failure. Miyoshi lets the police arrest him and receives eight years in prison. Nine years later both Yamamori and the lieutenant Naotake Aoki visit him: the boss says Aoki envies his standing and wants the family for himself, while Aoki answers that Yamamori forced himself on his girlfriend during an earlier prison term and is now too old to lead. On parole, Miyoshi is given a room, a monthly salary and bodyguards.
