Plot summary
Victor Frankenstein assembles a body from human corpses and brings it to life. Appalled by the creature's deformed appearance, he flees, and the Creature is left on his own. The Creature wanders the streets of Ingolstadt, lost and confused. He frightens off a man attacking Gretel, a prostitute, but she recoils from him and a crowd drives him away. He hides in a cottage where Felix and Agatha live with Felix's blind father, De Lacey, who befriends him and, across a year, teaches him speech, reading and writing. From Victor's journal the Creature learns about the man who made him, and he dreams of a female companion.
