Plot summary
Shubha has grown up in a middle-class family and wants a husband settled in America. The man she actually marries, Vinay, works in Kenya, and she has no choice but to travel with him to his home there. Settling into a new country is hard for her, and she is reluctant about the marriage at first. The couple's neighbors are Indu, a woman from Shubha's own home town, and Indu's husband Bhadran, who is abusive. Vinay's household also includes a housemaid named Emma.
