Plot summary
Mona lives in the Yorkshire countryside with her brother Phil, her only living relative. After prison, Phil turned their late mother's pub into a meeting place for local Christians and wants Mona to share his faith. Mona meets Tamsin, a wealthy girl who has been suspended from boarding school. Both find their own lives mundane. Her lover Ricky ends things with her after they meet in his car. Tamsin buys an engine for Mona's scooter, and the two ride to a river, where they swim under a waterfall and kiss. Tamsin then shows Mona the house where she claims her father's mistress lives. Mona breaks a window on Tamsin's father's car, and the two run off.

- Casting the two leads proved difficult and took about eight months, with Pawel Pawlikowski searching schools, universities, theater groups and public castings; he discovered Natalie Press first, then found Emily Blunt through workshops and felt her to be the ideal Tamsin.
- The scene in which Mona draws a portrait of Tamsin on her bedroom wall was entirely improvised: while traveling with Natalie Press, Pawel Pawlikowski discovered that she did a lot of drawing while she was thinking, and made a scene out of it.
- Most of the characters in the novel were left out of the film, and the character Phil was created by Pawel Pawlikowski, who had previously directed a documentary on born-again Christians in Yorkshire.
- Emily Blunt, a competent cellist, is listed in the credits of My Summer of Love as the performer of "The Swan" by Camille Saint-Saëns.
- In the US the film grossed $90,000 on its opening weekend in 17 theaters, then expanded to 63 theaters, taking a total of $1,000,915 over the eight weeks of its release.
- The whole of My Summer of Love was shot on location in Todmorden, during the hottest summer Yorkshire had seen in 50 years.
