Plot summary

Decades after Shao Kahn's defeat, revenants have ravaged Earthrealm, leaving scattered, isolated cities. The Black Dragon clan has taken those cities for itself, and Kano has crowned himself king. Kuai Liang, once the warrior Sub-Zero, has put that life behind him and farms instead. Black Dragon fighters raid his farm, then head for a city where the young warrior Kenshi lives; he drives them off but lets them live. They come back with reinforcements and beat him. Kenshi asks Kuai Liang to stand against Kano, since only Kuai Liang may be strong enough, but Kuai Liang will not take up his powers again, and Kenshi's own discipline is lacking.
