Plot summary
After an oil crisis, Lunar Industries built Sarang Station on the far side of the Moon, where helium-3 is harvested and sent to Earth in canisters. Samuel Bell runs the facility alone, and with two weeks left of a three-year contract he wants to get home to his wife Tess and to Eve, the daughter born before he left. Live communication with Earth has failed, so the only word from Tess comes in old recorded messages. Sam starts seeing a disheveled man and a teenage girl who are not on the station. One of the visions distracts him while he is retrieving a canister, and he crashes his rover. He comes to in the station's infirmary, remembering nothing of the crash, with GERTY attending to him. GERTY tells him a team will come to repair the station.
