Plot summary
Ramy arrives in Montreal from the Middle East to study medicine, moving into his uncle Hani's house after the death of his mother, Alya. His cousin Tamer plays in a band, and at a club where the band performs Ramy meets Désirée and Yaz, along with Phenix, who performs poetry. Ramy grows close to both women and is attracted to Yaz, though Tamer tells him to stay away from her. Grief keeps him from focusing on his classes, and the poetry he once wanted to write instead of medicine keeps returning; Hani gives him a poem Alya wrote. His father, who expects the medical degree, disapproves of the path Ramy keeps circling.
