Plot summary
Steve Clark rides a bus toward Los Angeles with the loot from a bank robbery in his suitcase, but he gets off in a small town along the way and stashes the money in a safety deposit box. He settles into work as a taxi driver, and a chance meeting introduces him to Julie Saunders, a local woman in her twenties who lives with a bitter elderly aunt. Clark's charm wins her over and they marry soon after. He has his own reason for the marriage: the stolen cash has to be laundered before he can spend any of it, and a respectable wife is the front he means to use.
