Plot summary
Frank Wayne, the head of a mafia organization, takes over honest businesses and sends millions of dollars to bank accounts in Switzerland. The money leaving the country is an intolerable drain on United States gold reserves, and the enterprise corrupts the nation's economy. Jim Phelps and the IMF are assigned to destroy the syndicate. The team has to get hold of the syndicate's records, hand them to the proper authorities, and shut the organization down. Rollin Hand poses as Frank Wayne, and Jim Phelps poses as an ambitious prosecutor. The story was assembled from a two-part episode of the original television series from 1967, titled The Council.
