Plot summary
Nino is a retired director in his seventies, living in a Rome apartment. Fredo, his producer of long standing, asks him to write a new screenplay. Nino works at his typewriter on an epic war story, then asks former collaborators to help: the screenwriter De Paoli refuses, and the actor Giovanni Marino turns down the part Nino offers him. Nino acts out the script at home, taking every role himself. A woman visits him who looks exactly like Angela, the ex-wife he still loves.
