Plot summary
Metro City's new defender is Megamind, who has left his villain life behind. With Ol' Chum, once known as Minion, he stops the Go-Fish gang from taking a priceless fish, and Metro City presents him with its key. Chum asks to be his sidekick and is turned down. Then the Doom Syndicate, his old allies in villainy, breaks out of prison. Lady Doppler, Pierre Pressure, Behemoth and Lord Nighty-Knight believe his heroic turn is part of an evil plan, so they go on a crime spree and demand that he rob a bank to show he is still a villain. Keiko Morita, his self-proclaimed biggest fan, helps him stage a fake robbery.

- In Megamind vs. the Doom Syndicate, Megamind's sidekick Minion is renamed Ol' Chum; director Eric Fogel said the change avoided association with the Minions characters who debuted in Despicable Me, released the same year as the original Megamind.
- The Doom Syndicate were scrapped from an early version of the first Megamind film and reused for its 2010 tie-in video game Megamind: Ultimate Showdown; only Behemoth and Lady Doppler carried over from the original concept.
