Plot summary
Guillaume is an effeminate boy whose mother waves away his behavior, and he asks to learn Spanish. She sends him to stay with Paqui, a Spanish woman who speaks no French, and since the two can hardly talk, Paqui teaches him the sevillanas. He dances at a local festival and the crowd laughs; Pilar will not dance with him, saying he dances like a girl, and when he asks whether he looks like a girl he answers that his mother would be delighted. He imitates his mother's voice for the family cook and for his grandmother Babou, which his father dislikes, and his father sends him to an all-boys boarding school.

- Gallienne's original French title for the film, "Boys, Guillaume, dinner is served!", comes from a phrase his mother used when calling her children to a meal, which he suggested was her way of differentiating between himself and her more masculine sons.
