Plot summary
Emilia Martin is a cartographer whose maps go to schoolchildren. She has her Christmas at home all planned out when her boss hands her a last-minute assignment: a novelty treasure map set at the North Pole. Emilia seeks out Drew Campbell, an explorer who has been to the North Pole, and he agrees to take part only reluctantly. The pair work through the design together, drawing on her mapmaking craft and his knowledge of the region, and the project takes up the holiday she had arranged for herself. The hours they spend on the map bring each of them more than the assignment they started with.
