Plot summary
Paul Schuberth manages human resources at a Berlin publishing house and considers his single life a good one. His marriage to Lisa ended in divorce, and he keeps up a casual relationship with Kathrin. He offers to look after dogs from an animal shelter, and an early walk with Fred, a boisterous Rottweiler cross, causes a stir at a duck pond and introduces him to Iris Jasper, a veterinarian he falls for at once. When he invites her out to dinner, she turns him down, since her wedding to Timothy is at hand. Paul's best friend Günther and his publishing colleague Guido Schamski also have trouble in love. Guido's wife found out about his affair with Katja and threw him out, so he moves in with Paul.
