Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Mankatha (2011)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Vivek Oberoi and Sathyaraj were considered first for Mankatha's lead, but Ajith Kumar phoned Venkat Prabhu asking to play a character like Heath Ledger's Joker in The Dark Knight, and the protagonist was already exactly that, so Ajith took the part.
- Nagarjuna was first approached and confirmed to essay a powerful CBI officer, and he offered to remake Mankatha in Telugu playing Ajith's role in return, but he could not adjust his call sheet, so Arjun replaced him in November 2010.
- The actor Ajith also performed one of Mankatha's action choreographies himself, using a body-mounted camera that weighed around 30 kg.
- Heavy rain pushed the start of Mankatha's second schedule back a couple of days and fuelled talk that the film had been shelved, which Venkat Prabhu denied; during that schedule a set resembling Mumbai's Dharavi slum was erected inside a Chennai studio.
- Ajith's "salt-and-pepper look" in Mankatha was widely praised, and he went on to reuse the same appearance in most of his subsequent films; it eventually became a trendsetter for Tamil heroes.
- Late in production, reports said Mankatha faced political pressure after the change of government in the 2011 Tamil Nadu election and found no buyers in the state, because it was produced by the grandson of DMK president M. Karunanidhi.
- The verse "Aadama Jaichomada" from the song "Machi Open The Bottle" inspired a Tamil film of the same name, and the scene where Vinayak gets excited by the collection of money was parodied in Tamizh Padam 2 (2018).
- Trisha dubbed her own dialogue for Mankatha at Venkat Prabhu's insistence, which made it only the third Tamil film to feature her original voice.
