- Beast was banned in Kuwait and Qatar without an official explanation, and it did not open in Tamil Nadu's Karur district because theatre owners and distributors there could not agree on the price for the film.
- Director Murugadoss was ousted from the project in October 2020 after he refused to accept a salary cut demanded by Maran, which followed the failure of Murugadoss's previous directorial, Darbar (2020).
- Because the COVID-19 pandemic had shut malls in Tamil Nadu, the crew replicated a huge shopping mall at the EVP Film City in Chennai. Nelson had scouted Delhi for real malls to shoot in but gave up because of the difficulty of controlling crowds.
- Selvaraghavan made his acting debut in Beast: Nelson wanted a relatively new face for a certain role, and Selvaraghavan accepted immediately when he was approached.
- Nelson chose Pooja Hegde because he wanted an actress who could match Vijay's height; she was then fresh off the success of the Telugu film Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo (2020).
