Plot summary
Sue sells art for a Baltimore firm, placing pieces on corporate office walls, and one weekend she checks into a motel in Kingman, Arizona, on old Route 66. Mike Flux, the night manager at his parents' motel, is taken with her at once and brings wine to her door. She shares a glass to be polite and asks him to go. He comes back the next day with champagne. Sue leaves for home, then turns back. Mike follows her to Baltimore, where she lets him stay until morning, and the two spend time together. He has little ambition beyond spending time with her; she rarely smiles, helps homeless people, and is just out of a relationship.

- Instead of Aberdeen, Washington, both Oregon City and West Linn were used to represent the hometown of Kurt Cobain, while the restaurant scenes were filmed at the Aloha Mall in Aloha, Oregon.
