Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Malaikottai Vaaliban (2024)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Kamal Haasan and Rishab Shetty both turned down a role in the film — Haasan to focus on his work in Indian 2, Shetty in favour of a Kannada film — so Mohanlal, already the lead, took a second role himself, one that unfolds during the film's climax.
- Kannada actor and comedian Danish Sait made his Malayalam debut in a character designed to emulate a hyena, a concept Mohanlal and Lijo Jose Pellissery developed together; Sait watched hyena videos to capture the animal's behaviour and laughter, and grew a beard unlike his usual clean-shaven look.
- It was the first time a Malayalam film was promoted through food delivery apps: the makers partnered with Swiggy to push Malaikottai Vaaliban to customers in Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
- Television actress Suchitra Nair won a part and her film debut after Lijo Jose Pellissery spotted her on the Malayalam reality TV show Bigg Boss season 4.
- Pellissery found Marathi actress Sonalee Kulkarni, who makes her Malayalam debut as the dancer Rangapattinam Rangarani, in the Marathi film Natarang (2010), where she played a lavani dancer — a dance she performs again in Malaikottai Vaaliban.
- The film's promotion included a strongman competition at Bolgatty Palace in Kochi, run with the Jain International School of Creative Arts and Manorama Online; winners took the title Mr. Vaaliban and a cash prize, and it was Kerala's first ever strongman competition.
