Plot summary
In 2008 in Mumbai, the gangster AK, nicknamed the Red Dragon, turns himself in to the police. He does so hoping that his wife Ramya and their son Vihaan can live calmly. After his release he plans to travel to Spain, where Vihaan stays with Ramya, her guardian Jayaprakash and her older brother Jaeger. Assassins sent by AK's enemies come after him, and Ramya tells him to keep away from them. AK calls in his associates, Mastaan among them, and makes clear what anyone who harms his family should expect. Jaeger then brings him the news that the police have taken Vihaan into custody. Vihaan, held on a drug charge and sent to juvenile detention, has been framed. Ramya holds AK responsible for the danger that has reached them.

- Composer Ilaiyaraaja sent a notice over the unauthorised use and alteration of three of his songs in Good Bad Ugly, and on 8 September 2025 the Madras High Court granted an interim injunction barring the producers from exhibiting, distributing or broadcasting the film with the disputed songs on any platform, Netflix included.
- Naslen was offered the role of Ajith Kumar's son in Good Bad Ugly but turned it down because of scheduling conflicts with Alappuzha Gymkhana (2025); the part went to Karthikeya Dev.
- G. V. Prakash Kumar replaced the previously announced Devi Sri Prasad as the composer of Good Bad Ugly, his second film with Ajith Kumar after Kireedam (2007).
- The teaser trailer for Good Bad Ugly, released on 28 February 2025, drew more than 32 million views in 24 hours, making it the most viewed Tamil film teaser up to that point.
- Toledo House in Toledo, Spain, which was a principal location in the Spanish TV series Money Heist, features in Good Bad Ugly.
- Good Bad Ugly, named after the 1966 Italian film The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, was Ajith Kumar's first film with an English title since Red (2002); director Adhik Ravichandran said Ajith suggested the title himself.
