Plot summary
A natural history museum lets its security guard Sam Baily go, and he comes back carrying a shotgun and dynamite, holding Mrs. Banks, his old boss, and a group of children from a school field trip. Max Brackett, a television journalist still in the building after interviewing the curator about the museum's money troubles, becomes the go-between for Baily and the police. Laurie Callahan, an intern at his station, works the story alongside him. Baily wants officers to let him go home to his wife Jenny and their children and refuses to accept that he is headed for jail. Outside, reporters and cameras gather as Brackett files the story from inside.
