Plot summary
Football is what Danny Mitchell wants to make his life. He plays for his all-boys Catholic school team in Belfast. His three closest friends on the team have other ambitions: Mickey wants to design fashion, Gary wants to work as a magician, and Spike wants to be a mercenary. Danny admires South American players for their rhythm and flexibility, so he enrolls in mambo lessons to bring those qualities to his own game. The dancing surprises him and his friends, and he falls for Lucy McLoughlin, an upper-class Protestant whose boyfriend is a fierce competitor on a rival team.
