Plot summary
Daylight has become poisonous, and people keep to their homes, meeting mostly inside virtual reality. Adam Bird, a father of three, works in tech and struggles with his family relationships and with what being human means in such a world. The government runs an insurance scheme for parents of three or more children, under which a clone replaces a parent who dies. Adam learns he has a serious heart condition. He expects his ex-wife to welcome the news, yet he has to keep his company going so that their policy stays valid and to retain his hold on the real world.
