Plot summary
A talented player on the Las Vegas poker circuit, Huck Cheever cannot put together the $10,000 entry to the World Series of Poker Main Event. His father, L.C. Cheever, has won the tournament twice, and the two men are estranged. L.C. returns to town and Huck greets him coldly before they sit down to a heads-up game. At a party, Huck meets Billie Offer, an aspiring singer new to the city, whose older sister Suzanne warns her about him. A loan shark, Roy Durucher, offers to put up Huck's entry money in exchange for a share of any winnings, and Huck refuses.

- Debra Messing spent 16 hours filming a scene dressed as a mermaid in the Silverton Casino Lodge's mermaid show, shot in the casino's 117,000-gallon aquatic tank. The scene was cut from the film.
- Lucky You sat on the shelf for two years and went through numerous release date changes as Warner Bros. mandated a half-dozen different cuts of the film in response to negative test screenings.
- The Bellagio's poker room had been renovated since the film's 2003 setting, so an exact replica of the original was built on a Los Angeles soundstage, and the crew bought the real room's auctioned furniture and chandeliers for it.
- "Huck's Tune" was written specifically for the film and later released on Bob Dylan's The Bootleg Series Vol. 8: Tell Tale Signs: Rare and Unreleased 1989-2006 compilation album.
