Plot summary
Late in the night, a masked man is in May Ryer's house. May has written a self-help book, the sort of woman other people come to for answers, and she wakes her husband, Ted Ryer, to tell him what she has seen. He dismisses her. The next morning Ted disregards her account of the night and leaves their house, since he does not believe that the man exists.
