Plot summary
Lindsay Finch is a heiress in Los Angeles. She dresses in mourning and attends wakes for men she never knew, and when the mourners leave she kneels at the coffins and kisses them. At the parties she holds she shows no interest in any living man. She is fixated on her dead father, daydreams about her childhood with him, and wears pigtails when she visits his grave. Her friend Wade Farrow is romantically interested in her, and she rejects his affections. The mortician Fred McSweeney notices her at the wakes and recognizes her as a kindred spirit.
