Plot summary
Keita Shinji is Taeko Ōsawa's young son, and his father, Park Shinji, has long been absent from his life. Taeko is married to Jirō Ōsawa, and the three of them live quietly in Japan. An accident brings Park back, deaf, ill and homeless, and Taeko, carrying pain and guilt, devotes herself to his care. Yōko Kondō works alongside Taeko at her job, and Risa Yamazaki is Jirō's former girlfriend. Jirō's mother, Akie Ōsawa, and his father, Makoto Ōsawa, are part of the family. A birthday celebration becomes the occasion when the past presses on the present and old ties and current feelings begin to pull at the household's ordinary life.
