Plot summary
Ever Wong, 21, is a Taiwanese American college student. She grew up in Chagrin, Ohio, studies premed and dances, and the summer before medical school her parents send her to Taipei for a summer program in culture and Mandarin. Ever would rather spend the summer preparing for an audition with a dance program in New York City, though she worries her parents would not approve. The students there call the program Loveboat and treat it as a chance to party and make friends. Ever befriends Sophie Ha and spends time with Sophie's cousin Rick Woo, a Yale economics student her mother has admired for years, and with a classmate named Xavier. Her mother's sister, Auntie Shu, owns a studio in Taipei where Ever can practice.
