Plot summary
Rodrigo Rodríguez, once a banker, now works at a repair franchise in Madrid and lives with his wife Cristina, a therapist and psychologist, and their children Alejandra, Gabriela and Nico. Nico is far cleverer than his family realizes. Rodrigo's mother Isabel, who lives in a senior community, hands Nico a package meant for his fifteenth birthday; he opens it early and finds a tape in which his dead grandfather speaks of something he buried in the garden. Nico digs it up: the crank of an old refrigerator. Fitting the crank into place brings a man named Félix into the house, and Félix leads the family through a portal to a world called Maktub, where Sra. Presidenta tells them who Rodrigo's father really was.
