Plot summary
Max is sixteen and has a condition that makes life lonely: a face so angelic that looking at it can kill. After his latest therapist dies by accident, Max goes to a bridge to end his life, and Alex talks him out of it. Alex has her own condition: her heart grows whenever she feels anything, so she takes medicine that holds her emotions down. The two begin to spend time together, and Alex brings him to the retirement home where she volunteers, which she has never shared with anyone. One resident there, Esther, is writing a novel about her own decline into Alzheimer's.
