Plot summary
The Red Army has turned Legnica, in southwestern Poland, into the biggest Soviet garrison on foreign soil, stationed there for its closeness to Czechoslovakia and East Germany. The year is 1967, in the middle of the Cold War. Wiera lives in the town with her husband Jura, a pilot in the Soviet air force. A cultural event is held to ease the tensions between the Poles and the Soviets. There Wiera meets Michał Janicki, a Polish officer. The two are drawn to each other by music, and because Wiera is married, the attachment that forms between them is a forbidden one.
