Plot summary
In 1997, with Hong Kong about to be handed back to China, Little Cheung is a nine-year-old in a busy neighborhood. His mother and father spend their days at the family restaurant, so the boy is raised mostly by his grandmother and by Armi, the maid from the Philippines. He gets to know Fan, a girl of about his age who is in Hong Kong illegally after crossing from China. She helps him carry take-out orders to customers, and he gives her a share of the tips. The two of them have small adventures, and they amuse themselves by urinating into the drinks of a neighborhood thug. Without his father's approval, Little Cheung sets out to find his older brother, whom the father cast off after he joined a gang.
