Plot summary
White Snake and her younger sister Green Snake have spent centuries training to take human form, and now they live among people. White Snake falls in love with the scholar Hsui Xien and marries him; she plans a family with him and continues her attempts to be reborn as a human. Green Snake is the more impulsive of the two, given to sensuality, and she envies her sister's happiness, testing the affections of a human by flirting with Hsui Xien. The sisters set up a house and a medical practice in town with their magic. Their life draws the attention of demon hunters, among them Fat-hoi, a Buddhist monk who has spent two decades driving demons out of the human world and doubts that a spirit can better itself.
