Plot summary
John, the young son of the fisherman Zebedee, hears from his mother that God will send a Messiah to free his people, though his father doubts it. Too young to fish, John is sent to the market to sell the family's catch and bring the money back to Matthew, the tax collector. There he meets a carpenter. The Baptizer tells him that this man, Jesus, is the Messiah. John and Andrew watch Jesus turn water into wine at a wedding, and Mary, Jesus's mother, speaks to John of the Nativity. The following morning Jesus helps Zebedee land a miraculous catch of fish, enough to settle what Matthew demands. John, James, Peter and Andrew choose to follow Jesus, and other disciples join them. Jesus heals Mary Magdalene and a paralytic man, and teaches his followers to love their enemies.
