Three prisoners break out of jail, and only Gustave Minda, called Gu, survives the escape. He reaches Paris and finds Manouche and her bodyguard Alban. Henchmen of Paul Ricci shoot Manouche's boyfriend Jacques Ribaldi in her restaurant; Paul and Ribaldi are rivals in the illicit cigarette trade. Two men come to Manouche's house for money, and Gu arrives while they are there. Commissaire Blot works to identify who was behind the shootings. Manouche hides Gu in a Paris apartment, and he grows a mustache before following her to Marseille. Her cousin has a boat, and the two plan to leave for Italy once Gu has a false passport.
