Plot summary
Henry Russell, a practical joker, dies and leaves four surviving relatives £50,000 apiece, on one condition: each must first carry out a task that goes completely against their nature. Deniston Russell, a retired army officer who writes lurid crime novels under pen names, has one week to get himself jailed for 28 days. Agnes Russell, who is snobbish, must take a job as a servant in a middle-class household and hold it for a month. Simon Russell, a penniless con man and womanizer, must wed whichever single woman he first speaks to. Herbert Russell, a timid bank clerk, must hold up his own bank manager with a mask and a toy pistol and get the bank keys for two minutes.
