Plot summary
Adam's husband Will, raised in various Latin American countries, signs him up for a hundred online Spanish lessons as a surprise. Cariño logs on from Costa Rica to find that her new student knew nothing about it, and that he is a wealthy Californian set in his routine. He goes along with the first lesson and promises to return in a week. At the second, he is still in bed: Will was struck by a car while jogging the night before, and Adam has told no one else. Cariño calms him by showing him the gardens near her home until he falls asleep, then keeps reaching out with messages, homework and self-care tips. He gradually takes the assignment up.
