Plot summary

Miguel is fourteen and lives with his mother, Carmen, who has no work and a personal life that shifts from one day to the next. She is unable to care for her son, and the authorities plan to place him in a center for minors again. To get by, the boy keeps the household running, peddles tissues and takes food from supermarkets. When Social Services come for him once more, Carmen sends him to Bogdan, a man she was once involved with in a nearby town. María, who owns a bar, treats the boy with a warmth close to a mother's, something he does not receive at home. Then Carmen vanishes.
