Plot summary
Paul Krüger, 66, is a widower in Berlin. He worked as a stone mason until he retired, having learned the trade in the former GDR. Foreigners and, above all, Muslims are what he dislikes. His granddaughter Annie, whom he dotes on, plans to marry Deniz, an ambitious student who waits tables in Ankara and needs a visa for Germany. Paul does not want the marriage to take place. He and Karin, the publican who is his buddy, travel to Turkey on what is called a holiday so that he can talk Annie out of it.
