Plot summary
Louis Fugain finds a man lying in blood in front of his apartment building and is taken into custody by Commissaire Buron, who questions him as the prime suspect. Fugain admits he went through the dead man's pockets before calling for help, which surprises Buron, and Buron will not let him break to eat. A neighbor reports that Fugain came and went from her home several times that night. Buron leaves the room to speak with his son, leaving a novice one-eyed policeman named Philippe to watch the suspect.
