Plot summary

Jesse Stone is forced out of the Los Angeles police for drinking on duty and drives east with his old dog Boomer to Paradise, Massachusetts, a small fishing town north of Boston. Hastings Hathaway, the wealthy banker who chairs the town council, chose him to replace Lou Carson, a chief who retired early. In his first days Jesse meets the small force he now leads, among them dispatcher Molly Crane, and responds to a domestic dispute involving Joe Genest, who ignores a restraining order. Town attorney Abby Taylor visits him to object to how he handled Genest, and the two begin seeing each other while Jesse keeps up his phone calls to his ex-wife, Jenn.
