Plot summary
Jeanne Dielman has been a widow for six years. She shares a flat in Brussels with Sylvain, her teenage son, and her days keep to a set order: cooking, cleaning, shopping, and laying out his clothes and shoes. She also looks after a neighbor's baby while the mother runs errands. Conversation between her and Sylvain is minimal, so she is effectively alone. While the boy is at school, men come to the flat, and she puts the money they give her into a soup tureen.
